The human race is just starting to enter into serious space exploration. Soon they discover they're among the smallest and weakest of all interstellar polities among the tens of billions of planets and quadrillions of beings in the galaxy, most of them hostile. Finding few allies, many enemies & assorted protectors and tormentors across a swath of systems, grand adventure, interstellar politics and bloodshed on a planetary scale follow in the wake of human interaction.
